Assessment

The most important step in the design process for a PV installation is assessing the consumption of the property. This will determine the size and production of the PV system.

If the assessment is incorrect the system will either under produce and not be able to maximise the saving potential for the building or over produce, generating more power than the building consumes. The excess will be exported to the grid for free and even greater losses will be incurred.

The following are the areas that are assessed:
  • Roof Type
  • Roof Size
  • Roof angles and pitch
  • Cable runs
  • Electrical limitations
  • Location of PV hardware
  • Location of electrical hardware
  • Location of supply from grid

Design

Fresh Energy utilises qualified Engineers and the best tools to design the highest efficiency PV projects. It is necessary to have an in depth knowledge of how the different components of a system function together to get optimum results.

Planning

The project planning is managed by Fresh Energy from the conception of the project to the sign off with the client. Each project starts with a detailed execution strategy, a day-to-day and week-by-week plan are constructed. This plan takes into account the operational schedule, material lead times, engineering, permitting, scheduling construction crew and utility interconnection. Implementation is based on the clients needs.

Installation and Implementation

Our licensed and insured electrical contractors have decades of electrical experience and know how to execute PV installation projects. Our role is managing the process, providing updates to our customers on progress, potential conflicts and problems, and to communicate on a weekly basis via email. When the occasional problem arises, as they sometimes do, our engineers are sent to review and resolve the problem. Problems are impossible to eliminate, it’s how they are resolved that matter.

Monitoring

Monitoring of the PV system is one of the most crucial components of the system. Inverters contain very intelligent features that allow the system to be monitored with great depth. This information is critical to determine faults and energy production. If the system is not monitored, installation errors may appear but not resolved and may have significant losses.

System reports are generated on a monthly basis and faults are reported immediately via email.

Billing

When different sources (utility, PV, generator) supply a property with power, it is important that these sources are measured and billed, accurately and effectively. We offer billing solutions for large scale multi tenanted applications. Our partners have extensive experience and use Power Line Communication technology to mitigate the need for wiring between the meters. This information is stored using cloud services and can be used to retrieve historic data and events.

Maintenance

PV installations have very low operating costs compared with any other type of alternative energy supply, this is due to the fact that there are no moving parts that require servicing and that the inverter technology has been available for decades.

The main requirement for maintenance is the panels, these should be cleaned and monitored using special cameras to determine if any errors have occurred. When an error occurs under normal use, these panels can be swapped out based on the warranty of the panel.
